Seed & Sprout didn’t start in a lab or a boardroom — it started in Byron Bay when one mum realised packing her son’s lunch without plastic was harder than it should be. What began as one stainless steel lunchbox became a zero-waste empire: glass bowls that don’t crack under pressure, shampoo bars that outlast your bottled stuff, and insulated lunch bags that look as good at the office as they do in the schoolyard. Conscious living without the beige guilt trip.

The BioHax Take
Seed & Sprout has built its cult following not by lecturing, but by solving problems. The CrunchBox™ actually fits a sandwich (who knew?), the Bento keeps rogue carrot sticks in line, and their stainless containers stack up against decades of Tupperware chaos. Every product is designed with its end-of-life in mind: stainless steel and glass that recycle forever, silicone that can be taken back via TerraCycle, and Aussie-made bars that leave nothing behind but foam. This is eco engineered into everyday life.

The Founder
Sophie Kovic didn’t just stumble into sustainability — she hacked her way into it. When her son Archie’s school banned disposables, Sophie discovered every “eco” lunchbox on the market was useless. Too many pieces, toxic plastics, awkward sizes, or the ultimate sin: no room for a sandwich. So she built her own.
Her first product, the CrunchBox™, smashed its Kickstarter goal in 48 hours (696% funded) and earned five-star reviews across the board. Adults wanted in as much as kids. What started in Sophie’s Byron Bay garage is now an international eco brand with 11,000+ reviews and a community obsessed with plastic-free living.
For Sophie, Seed & Sprout isn’t just about selling things, it’s about building tools that make sustainability feel good, not punishing. It’s also personal: the business has let her chase her off-grid dreams, from building a tiny home to swimming in her natural pool, while still growing a company with global impact.
How & Where It’s Made
Seed & Sprout designs everything in Byron Bay, and works with manufacturing partners in both Australia and overseas. Their stainless steel products couldn’t be made locally — despite Australia producing steel, the machinery wasn’t available domestically. Instead of giving up, Sophie travelled, audited factories, and partnered only with those who proved ethical in both treatment of workers and environmental practices.
Today, all bars (shampoo, conditioner, dish, facial, shave) are made in Australia, while glass, silicone, and steel come from carefully selected overseas partners. Products are independently tested, with organic textiles GOTS-certified and silicone LFGB-certified.
While some ranges are proudly made in Australia, other products are manufactured overseas where the right machinery and materials exist. Every partner is carefully chosen for ethics and sustainability. The goal isn’t to make everything local at any cost — it’s to make every product responsibly, at a price that keeps conscious living accessible.
Over 11,000 Reviews & Counting
With a near-perfect star rating, Seed & Sprout has grown into a community-driven brand. Customers rave about the practicality, durability, and design, while offering tips and hacks that feed back into the product ecosystem. It’s not hype — it’s a movement built on thousands of kitchens, bathrooms, and schoolyards choosing better every day.
