Rick Stein Coogee Beach Launch

Rick Stein Brings Coastal Flavour to Coogee Beach

It has been the worst kept secret in Sydney’s east. Rick Stein, the culinary icon who turned Bannisters Mollymook into a seafood pilgrimage, has finally cast anchor in Coogee. Opening 1 December 2025, Rick Stein at Coogee Beach brings the British chef’s lifelong love of the ocean to one of Sydney’s most beloved coastlines.

The new restaurant takes a prime beachfront position at 210 Beach Street, with sweeping ocean views, sustainably caught seafood and the kind of quiet coastal glamour Stein has perfected over decades. Bookings are officially live, and after a six part social-media series teasing the build up, local legends and market hauls, anticipation could not be higher.

The BioHax Take

The man who made “simple seafood done properly” an empire is giving Sydney something better than a restaurant. He is giving it a mood. Picture fresh prawns still carrying the ocean on their shells, perfectly grilled fish and that first sip of chilled Riesling while the tide hums below.

This is not just fine dining with a sea view. It is Rick Stein’s version of wellness; a plate that celebrates provenance, restraint and flavour that feels alive. Coogee’s coastal energy meets Stein’s Mediterranean sensibility, creating the kind of clean, nourishing indulgence that defines Gut Friendly Eats.

Behind The Design

What defines a quintessential Rick Stein restaurant? In part three of their six-part social series, Rick and Sas Stein join actor and Coogee local Tai Hara for a hard-hat tour of their soon-to-open seaside outpost, and yes, it’s exactly as coastal-cool as you’d expect.

Part three reveals the first look inside the space: curated interiors drenched in natural light, an open kitchen worthy of its own show, and those sweeping ocean views that make even lunch feel like a holiday. And of course, one of the most important decisions, which beers make the list.

Watch, comment, and win. Each of the six episodes on Instagram comes with a $100 voucher up for grabs. Like the page, leave a comment, or tag a friend for your shot.

From Bannisters To The Beach

This is Stein’s third Australian restaurant and it brings his coastal approach closer to Sydney. Inspired by his wife Sas and her hometown, Coogee feels like a personal return, a love letter to Australia’s shoreline and its seafood.

The couple’s six part social-media series, hosted with local actor and Coogee favourite Tai Hara, documented every step. They toured Sydney Fish Market, walked through the restaurant in hard hats, met local legends and fired up the barbecue for beachside tastings. The series doubled as a local love story and introduced Stein’s fans to the Coogee community before the first plate even left the pass.

Rick’s Take On Food And Place

“People associate bricks and mortar with trust and quality. This is an investment in connection and experience.”
— Rick Stein, The Australian

Coogee is set to deliver exactly that. The menu will showcase the coastal waters of New South Wales through fresh, sustainable seafood, vibrant produce and wine that encourages a very slow exit.
