Black Chia Seeds (ACO) 250g

Chia seeds feature quite often in smoothies and breakfast bowls... but did you know you can use chia as a vegan egg alternative or to thicken your curries? Organic chia seeds, with their super high omega 3, protein and fibre content, can be added to just about everything.

We just love this little goodness packed seed, especially because it is gentle on the tummy and super easy to digest - they also make the best puddings.

Chia Seeds Benefits

Chia seeds may be small, but they sure are mighty! Here are the top reasons why chia seeds are so super:
  • Chia seeds are rich in vitamins A, B, E and D. They also contain the minerals calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and manganese.
  • Chia seeds are the richest natural plant source of omega-3 fatty acids - great for keto diets.
  • Just 2 tablespoons of chia seeds contain around 4 grams of plant-based protein
  • Unlike flaxseeds, chia seeds are digestible without the need to grind them into a meal.
  • These seeds are an excellent source of both soluble and insoluble fibre, making them great for digestion, gut health and keeping you fuller for longer.
  • Chia seeds are naturally free from gluten, cholesterol and are low GI.
  • They can be stored in a cool, dark place for long periods with no deterioration and are ideal for enriching many different foods.
DID YOU KNOW: Ancient Aztec warriors are thought to have used chia seeds as rations, with one teaspoon sustaining a warrior for 24 hours! The name chia is Mayan for 'strength.'

How to Eat

Dry chia seeds can also be added whole or ground to smoothies and juices, mixed into yogurt or oatmeal, or sprinkled on top of a salad. If you're adding the seeds to a drink or a "wet" dish like oatmeal, they'll swell up slightly while you eat, but they'll retain a slight crunch.
How to Use

Chia seed may be eaten raw as a dietary fibre and omega-3 supplement or when soaked made into porridge or cakes. It is also used frequently in baked goods, including breads, cakes and biscuits.

Grinding chia produces a meal called pinole, which can be made into porridge or cakes.

Add to Water

The best way is to add 3 tablespoons of chia seeds to a cup of water. Stir the water until it's completely mixed in. Put it in the fridge and the next morning the chia seeds will grow in size become a gel-like texture that's easy to drink!

Growing & Processing

Chia seeds come from the desert plant 'Salvia hispanica'. It grows abundantly in southern Mexico and is actually a member of the mint family. The chia plant can grow up to 6 feet, with the seeds held in the head of the flowers, which are dried before harvested.  Ingredients
